Two patient buzzards

Sit under a flying wedge

Of migrating birds. 

Searching for the Spring (Appel Farm--March 1-3, 2014)

 Flying to the west--
Formations of wild geese,
Searching for the Spring.

 

Slowly and smoothly,
Chicken hawk swirls with intent
Above frozen snow.
 

 

 In their frozen planes
Buildings take a break from life
And the summer's warmth.

Last rays of the sun
Die on the frozen white snow--
South Jersey tundra.

Transcendent Violet

                                         Transcendent violet
                                    Now fallen to the sidewalk.
                                         As petal blanket.

Transcendent purple
Now fallen to the sidewalk.
As petal blanket.

I'm A Tree!!

Pierced telephone pole;
Home to unseen messages;
Guarded by splinters.

Errant maple leaf
Pokes its head out of the bush:
"I'm a tree!" it shouts.

Damn that stupid bird!

He knows that I have to sit,

And still shits on me.

 

All Things Love the Sun

 Fighting through the fence
Two dogs leap at each other,
But they cannot touch.
 

 

In the morning sun
Daffodils are radiant.
(All things love the sun)

 

 Surrounded by moss
Arrogant little seedlings
Proclaim their domain.

 

 Mystery building
Proclaims itself house of God.
(It just may be one).

 

 

Shining In Their Glory

Distant train whistle;
Lone bird sitting on a wire--
Morning on Elm Street.

 

Marching off to bus
Lucy husbands her backpack:
Trudging reluctance.

 

Face in the window
Doesn't even smile at me.
What is it thinking?

 

A beloved tree
Silhouetted in the sky
Preserved by its friends.
 

 

 Bush buds are swelling;
Some have burst into their leaves,
Shining their glory.

 

Two quiet neighbors:

Daffodil and fire plug--

Study in yellow.  

Spiked and smoky green
Chives sprout up near the sidewalk--
A pavement salad.
